Zoo keeper in San Diego Zoo – Bird exhibit

-Hopefully will lead to job as head of sea lion exhibit

 

Requirements:

-Knowledge of

  • Animal care

  • Animal behavior

  • Animal biology/zoology

  • Animal restraining/capturing

  • Animal safety

-Public speaking

-Use computer programs (word, excel)

-Communication/team work

-12 to 16 college credits in zoology, animal behavior, or related field

-1 to 2 years of work experience in zoo or similar environment

 

What I Need To Do

-Summer internship at zoo (Exhibit guide and wildlife conservation internship at Delaware zoo summer 2016)

-Other volunteer/internship opportunities

-Public speaking class (in 4 year plan)

-Take classes based on ecology/animal behavior

 

 

 

 

Intern for Riverhead Foundation for Marine Research and Preservation

-Leads to job as a Rescue Team member, and hopefully eventually the director of the rescue team

 

Requirements:

-must be registered at a 2 or 4 year university

-basic background in area of interest (biology courses)

-experience preferred

-Student at 4 year university

-basic background in biology (once biology courses are completed next semester)

 

What I Need To Do:

-build experience working with animals through summer 2016 internship at Delaware zoo

-internship at the Riverhead Foundation

-Continue volunteering after internship to gain more experience
