             Lessons Learned from Panel

The natural resources first year experience class has taught me many things, most of which came from students and staff members who have shared their own experiences and tips.  I learned many helpful lessons, including how to study for tests, how to cope with stress, and how to make sure that what you are studying is right for you.  The most important lesson to me was how to know if you are in the right place.  The one line that has stuck with me the most is that “you know you are doing the right thing if it gets you excited.”  When I think about my future and my goals, I think about living in California and working for a conservation organization for marine mammals, or working in a zoo with endangered species.  Most people would not want a career working in a zoo, but it makes me excited to think about and sounds amazing to me.  I also learned that it is okay to not know what you want to do, and it is also okay to change your mind.  If I decide that wildlife conservation is not for me, then it is okay to switch gears completely and study something else.  Wildlife conservation gets me excited though, and that makes me confident that I am in the right college and major.
